Synopsis

A baby is born near a wall with a heavy gate that divides an endless field. The baby grows up to become a man, who desperately longs his whole life to open the gate. Old and tired, he gives up and walks away. All of a sudden, the gate opens. Although the man turns around, he does not pass through; instead, he walks away on his side of the wall.

The 2009 International Festival for Documentary and Animation Film in Leipzig described the animation film Sitis (Latin for yearning, desire) as “a dark metaphor” and “a response to the East German citizens’ euphoria that existed shortly after the fall of the Berlin Wall” in November 1989.
