Synopsis
After the People's Republic of Zanzibar and Pemba was declared on 12 January 1964, the GDR provided the African island country with assistance in improving its economy, education, health care and housing.
The film introduces citizens of the country and their attempts to build their "road to the future," including the new president Obeid A. Karume. Also depicted are agricultural reforms in which fallow land is made arable and monoculture farming is replaced with corn, rice and sorghum crops.
