Synopsis

This biographical film about (East) German documentary filmmaker Peter Voigt (1933-2015) recounts important events in his artistic life. In the early 1950s, Voigt joined the Berliner Ensemble as Bertolt Brecht’s youngest assistant. He worked with Brecht and his team until the legendary theater director’s death in 1956. This collaboration shaped Voigt’s work for the rest of his life, as he repeatedly returned to the importance of Brecht as his mentor. The films integrates footage from Voigt’s documentaries and interviews with Voigt, family members and his closest collaborators, including cinematographer Christian Lehmann.
