Steffen Mensching was born in East Berlin in 1958. He studied journalism and cultural studies at Humboldt University in Berlin. Since 1980 he has worked as actor, author, singer, songwriter, and dramaturg. In 1978, he joined the song theater Karls Enkel and created, together with singer-songwriter Hans-Eckardt Wenzel, the satirical cabaret clown duo Mensching & Wenzel. Their revue programs were very popular, especially in East Germany before the fall of the Wall. Mensching has been the manager of the Theater Rudolstadt since 2008 and has also worked there as a director and playwright.
