Rosié, Thomas
Born in Berlin in 1942, Thomas Rosié studied camera work at the Academy for Film and Television in Potsdam-Babelsberg from 1961 to 1963. He worked as a film photographer, cameraman and special effects technician for East German Television until 1968. Since then, he has brought his experience as a special effects designer and cinematographer to the Moser+Rosié special effects studio, which he founded along with Hans Moser.
Roters, Ernst
Ernst Roters was born in Oldenburg, Germany, on July 6, 1892. He worked as a composer, conductor and opera director.
Rücker, Günther
Günther Rücker was born on February 2, 1924 in Reichenbach (now Liberec, Czech Republic). In 1942, he was drafted into military service and then served time as a British POW. After his release in 1945, he went to Leipzig, where he worked as a teacher. From 1947 to 1951, Rücker studied directing at the Leipzig Theaterhochschule. While a student in Leipzig, he also wrote radio dramas.
Ruge, Walter
Walter Ruge was born in Berlin in 1915. After Hitler came to power, his family was forced to leave Germany due to their political beliefs and emigrated to the Soviet Union. In 1942, after a forced displacement to Omsk, the Stalinist government sentenced Ruge to ten years of hard labor, accusing him of counter-revolutionary activities and spying for Germany.
Runkehl, Karla
Karla Runkehl (Luise Faber) was born in Stettin, Germany (now: Szczecin, Poland) on November 7, 1930. In 1945, she settled in Greifswald and two years later at the age of 17, she moved to Berlin and started an acting class at the DEFA Studio for Young Talents. After graduating in 1951, she joined the Deutsches Theater ensemble.
Sacher, Otto
Otto Sacher was born in 1928 in Bystre and studied at the Institute of Artistic Design in Halle. He helped found the DEFA Studio for Animation Film in 1955, where he worked as a director until 1990. In the 1960s, Sacher taught film at the Dresden College of Fine Arts alongside his studio work. His class evolved into the only East German center exclusively dedicated to the training of cartoon animators at the university level.
Safonov, Vsevolod
Vsevolod Safonov was born in Moscow on April 9, 1926. In 1949, he graduated from the Boris Shchukin Theater Institute in Moscow, the legendary drama school founded in 1914 as part of the Vaktangov Theater. After graduating he performed briefly at the Kamerny Theater, which was closed when Soviet officials complained about the formalistic and experimental character of their performances.
Sahling, Bernd
Bernd Sahling was born in Naumburg, East Germany, in 1961. After an internship at the DEFA Studio for Feature Film in 1983, he joined the Hochschule für Film und Fernsehen (now Filmuniversität Babelsberg Konrad Wolf) in 1986. His 1988 student film, Aber wenn man so leben will wie ich, was the first GDR film that put East German punk culture at the center of a film story.
Sandow, Nino
Nino Sandow was born in East Berlin in 1961. From 1982 to 1988 he studied operatic singing at the Hanns Eisler Music Academy, and from 1985 to 1986 he took classes at the Ernst Busch Academy of Performing Arts, both in Berlin. He also studied musical theater directing from 1990 to 1993 at the Hanns Eisler Music Academy.
